The Greens Now Have More Members Than The Tories As Support Surges

<div><img src="https://img.huffingtonpost.com/asset/68eb7a71150000149f269fd0.jpg?ops=scalefit_630_noupscale" alt="Green leader Zack Polanski delivers his speech at the party's conference in Bournemouth earlier this month." data-caption="Green leader Zack Polanski delivers his speech at the party's conference in Bournemouth earlier this month." data-credit-link-back="" data-credit="Finnbarr Webster via Getty Images" />Green leader Zack Polanski delivers his speech at the party's conference in Bournemouth earlier this month.</div><div class="content-list-component text"><p>The <a href="https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/news/green-party/">Greens </a>have more members than the <a href="https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/news/conservative-party/">Conservatives </a>for the first time ever following a dramatic surge in support under their new leader.</p><p>Another 1,000 people signed up this morning alone as Zack Polanski appeared on the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg programme.</p><p>The party now has more than 126,000 members, compared to the 123,000 the Tories were said to have back in July.</p><p>Polanski said the trend shows “British politics is changing and support for old-style parties built on privilege and power is shrinking”.</p><p>“Increasing numbers of people are walking away from the politics of austerity,  inequality and division and choosing a new kind of politics that offers a bold, hopeful vision of prosperity, equality and unity,” he said.</p><p>“Our membership boom reflects growing public frustration with the political status quo and a hunger for genuine alternatives.”</p><p>He added: “This milestone shows that people are ready for something new.
