Exclusive: Emily Thornberry Appealing For Labour MPs' Support As She Mulls Deputy Leadership Bid

<div><img src="https://img.huffingtonpost.com/asset/68bed496180000022f8c74f9.jpeg?ops=scalefit_630_noupscale" alt="Emily Thornberry " data-caption="Emily Thornberry " data-credit-link-back="" data-credit="via Associated Press" />Emily Thornberry </div><div class="content-list-component text"><p><a href="https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/news/emily-thornberry/">Emily Thornberry</a> is appealing for support from <a href="https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/news/labour-party/">Labour </a>MPs as she weighs up whether to stand to be deputy leader.</p><p>HuffPost UK has seen a message she has sent to colleagues saying the government has made “too many mistakes” on issues like welfare reform and Gaza.</p><p>In direct criticism of No.10, she said the current party leadership “aren’t listening” to the concerns of MPs.</p><p>The message also contains a clip from comments she made on the BBC’s Sunday with <a href="https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/news/laura-kuenssberg/">Laura Kuenssberg </a>in which she revealed she was considering standing.</p><p>She said: “I’m thinking about it … it’s really a question of what can I bring to it.”</p><p>MPs hoping to run for deputy leader have until 5pm on Thursday to get at least 80 nominations from Labour MPs.</p><p>Thornberry’s message says: “Hi there, I’m thinking of standing for Dept Leader. MPs nominations by Thursday. Could we speak today? I would love your support.</p><p>“This is a clip of what I said on Laura K yesterday. Welfare, Gaza, employment rights, wealth inequality - too many mistakes.</p><p>“We’ve been telling them and they aren’t listening. Good colleagues have sacrificed a great deal to do so.
