Americans and US food banks brace for Trump cuts: ‘Battling hunger is no longer a priority’
<p>Looming funding cuts to the US food assistance program come as food prices continue to rise under Trump’s administration</p><p>Americans are bracing for the impact of the largest cuts to the government’s food assistance program for low-income people in US history that have begun to take effect as a result of Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act.</p><p>Effective 1 October, the beginning of fiscal year 2026, funding for Snap-Ed, part of the <a href="https://www.fns.usda.gov/snap/supplemental-nutrition-assistance-program">Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Snap)</a> that provided funding for food banks across the US, is being <a href="https://foodbanknews.org/snap-ed-is-gone-now-what/">eliminated</a>.
